About Paris Mountain State Park
Paris Mountain is an isolated monadnock standing above Greenville, and having a genuine forested mountain this close to a city centre is unusual. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the bathhouse and dam at Lake Placid in the 1930s and both are still the centrepiece. What draws most people now is the trail system: a well-designed network shared between hikers and mountain bikers, with sustained climbs, fast descents and enough interconnection to ride for hours. Swimming in the lake in summer, and an easy loop around it for anyone not interested in climbing.

Getting a van in and out
Paved access from Greenville and a developed campground, with the important practical advantage that a full city — groceries, fuel, laundry, hardware, anything — is six miles away. The internal park road climbs and twists between the lakes with some narrow sections. This is a popular urban park, so weekends are busy and the trails carry a lot of bike traffic. Cell signal is full strength.
