About Sadlers Creek State Park
Sadlers Creek occupies a peninsula reaching into Lake Hartwell, a very large reservoir on the Savannah River that forms part of the border with Georgia. The appeal is simple and specific: many of the campsites sit close to the water with long views across it, and because the park is smaller and further from the interstate than the main Hartwell access areas, it stays quiet. Fishing is the main pursuit — Hartwell has a serious bass reputation — along with boating, and a few easy trails loop the shoreline through pine and hardwood. Sunsets over open water, and not much else to do, which is rather the point.
For van drivers
Getting a van in and out
Paved access from US 29 south of Anderson and a developed campground with drive-in, water-adjacent sites. Anderson is about fifteen minutes for full supplies and I-85 is close, which makes this an easy and pleasant overnight if you are crossing the state rather than a destination. Summer humidity is heavy and the lake breeds mosquitoes at dusk. Cell signal is good.
